So Habs fans. what do you think after watching game 1 of the season?
Obviously, they won't be a contender, or a playoff team. However , I think they contend for one. I also believe they will not win the Connor Bedard sweepstakes( unless the lottery balls in an awesome way).
My takes from game 1.
St.Loius, has an exciting game plan
Suzuki is a leader
Caufield is a potential Rocket contender.
Slahkovsky belongs
A Healthy Monohan is really good.
There is a lot of promise. It's nice after watching years and years of of mediocre teams, to just chill are watch a team grow. There are no Cup aspirations, no playoff ones either. It's a year of really not a lot of pressure ( from a fans view). just go play and get better.!.
Gonna be fun to watch. hard at times forsure, but future is good
This team is a starting goalie. a dman or 2 as well as 2 more years experience from being Very good

I would like to see Montreal TRADE Gallagher to Edmonton. I know it's probably unlikely, but if montreal retains would it be better to get him now or at the trade deadline?

Here is what montreals problems have been. Gally should of been traded price petry, should have all been traded. Before there contract years, or let them walk amd get nothing, weber should of been traded before he got hurt, yes they went to the Stanley cup finals, but where did it get them, last place the following season with wasted cap space on middle aged hockey players that's are washed up or going to be washed up before there contracts are going to be up. Montreal won championships trading those types of players for high draft picks amd continuously drafting youth. If gorton or Hughes want to win they need to follow in the footsteps of Sam pollock.

Montreal did right by drafting Juraj Slafkovský first overal and trading for Kirby dach. Kirby dach has skill chicago didn't properly delevop his hockey. He should have been left in the junior league another year or play in the ahl. His development to the game wasn't properly evaluated. He isn't mcdavid. Now Montreal should take them time with Juraj Slafkovský amd let him adjust to North American hockey by playing in the ohl or Quebec league with his childhood friend flip mesar. Montreal needs to flop another year. Let the two boys have fun dominating the chl leauge. Let them know what it's like winning and scoring goals. One year is nothing right now in rebuilding. Don't make the mistake of trying to speed up a dynasty. Some kids need time learning and playing the game. Don't put kids on a loosing team, bring them into a team that is on the verge of winning. There is nothing more frustrating then loosing.

GallAger needs to be traded along with dvorak and petry. Drouin too. Gally 6.5 million is way to much for a third line winger. They got caufield they don't need a small winger.
Gallagher amd a 2023 third rounder to aniehm for comtis. I know you say his value is more but in reality it's shedding cap space and bringing a winger in that is going in montreals direction of a rebuild

Agree 100% Shane Wright is not the answer for the Habs. Hughes will figure that out, if not, prolonged rebuild!

If Montreal drafts Shane wright I'm finished with them as a die hard Montreal fan. It would be like Montreal taking doug wickenheiser over denis savard all over again.

Habs traded Toffoli for Pitlick, Heineman, a 1st and a 2024 5th rd.
Wow. That is extremely disappointing. I think they could have done a lot better.
Dube, Pelletier, and possibly a 1st or 2nd.
Maybe I'm wishful thinking. But totally disappointed in this trade. Only good thing here is the 1st rd pick.

Montreal had to take pitlick for salary reasons to make the cap work for Calgary.
Should have been pretty much the same other than the fifth round pick should have been a second or third. Pelletier Is to small they got Caufield and Gallagher at the moment. Dube still has term. Heineman Isn’t signed yet. So it’s a prospect they don’t have to add to there 50 contracts list yet.
Gorton and Hughes are trying to clean up the mess of salaries Bergeron signed. Gorton and Hughes have a list of players they want. And looking at the upcoming free agents I’m sure they want to sign afew. And I’m sure Hughes and gorton, are not going to do the rebuild everyone is talking about. They are just getting rid of bad contracts that Bergeron signed. And already are two steps ahead.
