If you trust Ek to run a top 6 centre position then we might as well trade up to Tkachuck in this draft(if we don't already fall into the position to pick him as is) who in my opinion has more checking skills/grit to mold into a solid forechecking centre with an already proven backcheck. We need our forwards to do more against the boards Drouin and Chucky aren't strong enough, Gally tries but gets pushed around like a rag doll against the boards depending on the size of his opponent leaving us weak against the boards. Also why do we need Nino(RW) when Scherbak(RW) and Gally(RW) can "produce" just as well with a proper centre as i'm tired of seeing "plugs" play their off wing. This team needs a gritty strong centre who can forecheck. Our needs aren't on the wings anymore with Scherbaks progression on RW we simply need a proper puck moving left Dman and our 2 top centre need to be acquired(or molded but so far Drouin and Chucky just don't cut it and both experiments are starting to get old). But if Drouin or Chucky run a 2nd line PP as a centre i'm fine with that.

As much as that would create a BIG hole on our goaltending I feel this would bolster our offense and maybe create a more high scoring team like the Laffs. Sadly as much as I am intrigued we would have to get rid of our "defense first" coach and pick up a coach that operates a stronger offensive game. Dare to dream though. Also Price has a NTC so good luck convincing him that Edm(a team that can't make the playoffs most years) is the place to go for a cup run.

MB will NOT trade his beloved acquisition. He will hold firm to Drouin until he is "officially" a stud or a dud. Only a couple years will tell since Drouin "could by theory" be solid with the right linemates and he almost appears to be Patches replacement due to our abundance of LW and the rumours on Patches on the open market. One might say Drouin can't replace Patches BUT a more "well rounded" top 6 LW with Galchenyuk/Drouin might just lock the habs future production if both can build some defensive awareness to go with their offensive abilities(all this falls on the Habs picking up a proper centre)

That's an intriguing option I keep trying to find his faceoff % but to no avail. It would help in the short term but I fear that would look horrible on the Habs when their traded pick becomes a stud(i keep thinking Sergachev or McDonagh) and any pick in the top 6 is NHL ready out of the gate since this is a rich draft class in 2018. I feel it would be a loss to give away any 1st round pick the habs have this year. Even Ottawa has a clause to hold onto their 1st round pick after the Duchene deal(obviously they'd lose their 2019 pick instead). All this is being said with the attachment of Patches to that trade whom in my opinion carries a lot of skill on his own. Patches and 2 X 2nd Rnds would be fair yet the patient seller holds all the cards(look at Sakic). I think if the price is too high we don't need another "good on paper" player like Alzner. Anyone on Buffalo could be a hit or miss on defense(think Galchenyuk version 1.1), that team has the worst goal output and the 3rd worst goals against so obviously a couple players will shine in muddy water. Although I will admit the Sabres are missing a top 6 LW producer so who knows. I just feel our pick should remain our pick unless Patches and our 1st pick fill all of our holes and it makes us contenders. Sometimes 1 step back for 2 steps forward is the way to go(in other words patience on the market and our young guns development process)
