Montreal trades:
Josh Anderson @5.5M UFA 2027
Calgary trades:
Sean Monahan @6.375M UFA 2023
Matthew Philips @750k RFA 2022 or Jack Beck @750k RFA 2022
2023 1st round pick
Montreal eats the last year of Monahan's contract and receives a 2023 first round pick + their choice of 2 prospects in the mold of Habs coach Martin St Louis.
Calgary gets a big power forward with speed who brings even more grit, physicality and toughness to the top 6 than was lost with the departure of Tkachuk. He'll score some goals too maybe a lot of them if he's on a line with Huberdeau and Lindholm.

Anderson for a 1st and a bad contract that puts Habs over cap. Not going to happen. It will take way more then that.

Josh Anderson @5.5 mil UFA 2027
Ben Chiarot @3.5 mil UFA 2022
2022 2nd round pick
Sean Monahan @5.375 mil (1 mil retained) UFA 2023
Nikita Zadorov @3.75 UFA 2022
Jakob Pelletier @863K RFA 2024
Calgary gets a big fast skating physical top 6 RW who seems very well suited for a Sutter team, a defenseman who will hopefully be a better fit in Calgary than Zadorov has been and gains a little cap space (not counting Pelletier's cap since he isn't on the NHL roster) .
Montreal gets a top young Quebecios prospect good enough to make their roster immediately though they could (should IMO) keep him in the AHL until next year and start tanking for a great chance at Shane Wright. They also get Monahan who if he recovers his old form makes the trade a big win for Montreal.
Could change Anderson to Toffoli. Anderson is bigger younger and more physical. Toffoli is more of a goal scorer, less injury prone and comes with a 1.25M lower cap hit on a shorter term contract. Anderson is a player you want in the playoffs, Toffoli is a player who helps get you to the playoffs.

Montreal trades:
Ben Chiarot @3.5 mil UFA 2022
Calgary trades:
Nikita Zadorov @3.75 mil UFA 2022
2022 third round pick
The contracts are comparable Chiarot makes 3.5 mil and Zadorov 3.75 mil. Both players become UFAs after this season is over.
Calgary gets an upgrade on defense (nastier too) while Montreal gets an extra draft pick.
Alternately.
Montreal trades:
Ben Chiarot 3.5 mil
2nd round pick
Calgary trades:
Nikita Zadorov 3.75 mil
Dillon Dube @2.3 mil RFA in 2024
The difference is Calgary gets a decent pick for next year while Montreal gets a decent young LW who could use a change of scenery, is signed for 2 more years after this one and RFA then.

Why not trade him for a 1st instead of taking garbage from another team.
2.) 06 Jan 2022 00:53:57
The concensus is Chiarot = 1st. Why would MTL trade him for a 3rd and a UFA? These make absolutely zero sense.

To Calgary:
2022 first round pick
Kotkaniemi (with offer sheet matched)
To Montreal:
Sean Monahan
Montreal gets out of a bind with the offer sheet on KK.
Calgary gets.

This transaction is impossible under league rules.
KK can't be traded by ANYONE this year, either by the team that offer-sheeted him, or by the Habs if they matched.

A three way trade between Calgary, Montreal and Columbus.
Calgary trades: Sean Monahan, 2021 2nd round pick
Calgary gets : Josh Anderson
Columbus Trades: Patrick Laine
Columbus gets : Sean Monahan, two 2021 2nd round picks
Montreal trades: Josh Anderson 2021 2nd round pick
Montreal gets : Patrick Laine
Calgary gets a physical top 6 right shot RW
Montreal gets an elite sniper
Columbus gets a good center and two 2nd round picks
Thoughts?

Huge Anderson fan but Calgary is not trading Monahan and a 2nd for him.
2.) 13 Jul 2021 17:21:35
Ridiculous. especially the Anderson-Laine scenario. Talk about trading heart and getting none back!
