Anaheim : Zegras

Zegras' age fits MTL's rebuilding timeline and gets to play with his good buddy Caufield.

With Gauthier eventually joining the team and with Carlsson and MacTavish down the middle, it looks like Zegras might be on his way out . Anaheim gets more early round picks for their rebuild, a good forward prospect in Mesar and a decent young defenseman in Harris who can play both sides and can slot in their lineup instantly

ANA - Zegras (negotiating rights)
MTL - 2025 1st (CGY), 2024 2nd (COL), 2025 2nd, Farrell, Armia (Cap dump)

With McTavish and Carlsson down the middle, Anaheim has options, since negotiations aren't going too well for Zegras' new contract. They gain multiple picks and a solid LW prospect with good offensive upside. Almost all positions are set in their prospect pool, to the exception of winger position, which this trade improves. Armia is added as cap dump for negotiation leverage with Zegras.

MTL gets a young, solid offensive center that could play with Caufield, his best buddy.

Another Pier-Luc Dubois trade to MTL :

Jets : PLD (would probably need to include a handshake agreement for an extension at the season start)
MTL : 2023 1st rounder (Florida's pick), 2023 4th rounder, Owen Beck, Christian Dvorak

MTL gets a solid top 6 center with top line potential who could sign a team friendly deal assuming he really wants to play at home, as reported.

WPG gets a 1st in a deep draft, a solid two way center prospect in Beck, a 3rd line center in Dvorak with a cap controlled contract and an additional 4th rounder. WPG can now then sign one of the many 2nd line centers available in free agency so that they stay competitive next year instead of losing PLD for nothing next year (assuming they would have made the playoffs)

Friedman said on his podcast that Jets and Habs have talked about Dubois and that he's 95% sure that Dubois ends up in MTL. I don't really see how the habs can trade for him especially if he can sign as a FA next year, but Friedman mentions that talks are ongoing.

Any suggestions for a trade?

No hurry for the HABS. Gallagher contract MUST be moved! HABS have many picks now maybe move some of the lesser stars however no $ retained or at least no longer than 1 year if that is possible .,

Colorado : Alex Newhook, Matthew Stienburg
Montreal : Dvorak

Montreal gets a young talented forward to bolster their young core who's also a former first round pick. His developmental curve

With more than 6.8M in deadline cap space, Colorado gets a shutdown 3rd line center who's really good on faceoffs, eats a lot of PK minutes and has offensive upside. They also get a 4th rounder to replace the one they traded away for MacDermid. This deal would solidify their center position for years to come.

I see this deal as a similar one to the Lehkonen trade where they traded Barron and a 2nd for him. Dvorak is on a similar deal as Lehkonen currently, he will probably benefit with being on a more offensive-minded team than Montreal. Newhook's value is a bit higher than Barron's value and Stienburg's value is a bit lower than a 2nd, so both players equal a similar value as the Lehkonen return for MTL.
